  • DC delays the release of Black Adam, Aquaman 2 and The Flash

The major upcoming projects of the DC Extended Universe have seen some significant changes in their release dates for some unknown reasons. This includes DC’s heavyweight movies like Super-Pets. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Black Adam, Flashpoint (The Flash) and Aquaman 2. While the actual reason for the changes in date has not been revealed, it is being said that it is not due to COVID-19 but for a much more amicable reason.

Let us first take a look at all the movies that have undertones of a change in their release dates. Black Adam, which was originally set to release on 29th July 2022, will not be released on 21st October while. Meanwhile, the 29th July spot has been occupied by Super-Pets which was set to release much earlier.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced the changes in the release dates of both these DCEU movies through a Twitter post as he has a huge role in both these movies. As we all know, he will the role of Black Adam in the DCEU. Meanwhile, he has also voiced for the character of Krypto who is the pet dog of Super-Man in DCEU’s Super-Pets.

However, the biggest changes have been seen in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Flashpoint (The Flash) and Aquaman 2. The release date of Aquaman 2 has been moved from December 16, 2022, date to March 17, 2022, while that of Flashpoint (The Flash) has been moved from November 4, 2022, to June 23, 2023. However, in some miraculous way, the release date of Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been moved up by 2 months. It was originally going to release on June 2, 2023, but will now instead release on December 12, 2022.

Various other Warner Bors projects like Timothy Chalamet’s Wonka and Meg 2 have also been pushed back.

Out of all the upcoming DCEU projects, Black Adam and Flashpoint (The Flash) are the most awaited movies as both of them will have huge implications on the future of the DCEU. Black Adam will introduce one of the strongest characters in the DC Universe while Flashpoint (The Flash) will perhaps change the entire DC Extended Universe as we know it.

  • The Batman director Matt Reeves confirms Arkham Asylum and Penguin Spinoff

The Batman director Matt Reeves had announced a long time ago that his upcoming Dark Knight movie will not be set in the DC Extended Universe but will rather aim at creating a universe of its own. After the great response that Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s Batman has received from the Audience post its release, DC has already decided to expand the Batman mythology with several HBO Max spinoff shows.

HBO Max spinoffs are apparently the new trend in the DCEU. James Gunn’s Peacemaker, which was a Suicide Squad spinoff series was an instant hit and thus DC has decided to expand Matt Reeves’ Batman universe on multiple streaming platforms.

    Matt Reeves confirms Penguin Spinoff

    The Batman’s Penguin

HBO Max had already confirmed back in 2020 that they were planning to make a series around the Police department of Gotham City portraying the roots of corruption in the city. Reportedly a spinoff show featuring The Batman villain Penguin will also be made and it will show his rise to power in Gotham City.

The Batman director Matt Reeves has himself confirmed the rumours now. He praised Colin Farrell, the actor who played the role of Penguin in the movie and called him a ‘scene stealer’.

Talking about the Penguin spinoff, he said “We’re doing this Penguin series and one of the great things about that is Colin Farrell — he’s like you’ve never seen him. He’s so incredible and he’s a scene-stealer. Along the way, we thought maybe we could do (his character) as a series.”

“So I talked to HBO Max and showed them Colin in the movie and spoke to them about what this could be and they said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

An Arkham Asylum Spinoff show is being planned

    Arkham Asylum

Matt Reeves then gave the biggest teaser by saying that the second HBO Max spinoff will connect the Batman verse to Arkham Asylum. It is being rumoured that a separate third spinoff movie will be made on Arkham Asylum as well.

“So we’re doing that and we’re doing another series that connects to Arkham (Asylum). We are talking and thinking about the next movie, but to be honest with you, at the moment, I really want the audience to connect with this. And I really believe they will because I think Rob is an incredible Batman,” Matt Reeves said.

The Arkham Asylum is an important part of DC’s Batman comics and is popularly known to have been the place that gave rise to DC’s most crooked villain of all times, The Joker.

It has been confirmed that Matt Reeves will himself be the executive director of all of these Spinoff projects.

  • Why can’t Superman be brought into Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse? Robert Pattinson Explains

The much-awaited upcoming DC movie ‘The Batman’ which will feature Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, is set to hit the theatres in approximately a week’s time on 4th March. The excitement for Matt Reeves’ project is as high as it gets and fans are eager to see what the Planet of the Apes fame director has in store for the character.

While it is nice having so many Batman in the DC Cinematic Universe at the same time, it poses a big problem. And this is exactly what separates DCEU from MCU.

The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be attributed to one thing only – the beautifully interwoven storyline of each and every MCU movie which connects every superhero with each other. This was what allowed them to make the big budget collab movies like the Avengers series. The rest as they say is history.

    The Problem with DCEU

Unlike MCU, the DCEU is way too messed up. There have been over 3 Batmans. 3 Jokers and 2 Super-Mans in the span of the last decade. Let’s take up the Joker for an instant. He was first played by Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, by Jared Leto in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the Suicide squad. Just a few years later, DCEU made an origin story on Joker featuring Joaquin Phoenix. So the question is if they want to make an encounter between say Joker and Batman possible, which version of the two characters will the DC chose to show? This is what leads to the confusion.

Thus, even if the fans wanted to see action between Robert Pattinson’s Batman and DC’s Superman, chances are, it is never going to happen.

    Robert Pattinson’s Explanation

However, on being asked about whether we could see Superman alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman, the actor gave a cunning response. He said that if a Justice League character appears in a Batman movie, it ceases to remain a Batman movie any longer. There is a different tone in the setting of the two characters and thus it would be better if they made Batman a stand-alone movie. Even if Superman were to appear in a Batman movie, his powers could not be showcased.

“Like, we were talking the other day, like, ‘Can you add Superman into it but he just doesn’t have any powers? He’s just a guy in a cape?’ He’s just like, ‘I’m Superman!’ And they’re like, ‘So?’” Pattinson said.

His colleague Selina Kyle, who plays Catwoman in the movie, added that the worlds of Superman and Batman kind of just don’t work together.

Matt Reeves’ Batman is not in the DC Extended Universe

Moreover, director Matt Reeves has announced that he is creating a Bat-verse of himself including characters like Riddler, Penguin, etc and that The Batman(2022) is not a part of the DC Extended Universe. This just brings us back to the whole problem of the DC Cinematic Universe. Although it is an interesting prospect, the future of such a Bat-Verse that is separated from the rest of DCEU does not seem to have a long time effectivity.

  • Suicide Squad and Teen Titans Academy Comics cancelled by DC: Here are the details about the final issue

The Suicide Squad and Teen Titans Academy have been two of the most easily accessible group of Superheroes in DC Comics. However, according to many rumours, their stay in the DC Comics was finally to an end and it might be the last time that we witness both the Superhero groups. Teen Titans Academy writer Tim Sheridan himself confirmed this news today.

While Suicide Squad has already made an appearance in two movies, Teen Titans Academy has not had that privilege. Although, the group can very well make their DCEU debut in the years to come.

It was earlier believed that Teen Titans Academy and the Suicide Squad would make an Earth-3 Crossover for the next big war.

The Final issue comic of Teen Titans Academy (#15) is written by Tim Sheridan reads, “In the shadow of the new Titans Tower, the students and faculty decide whether the school is the right place for them,” on the cover page. It will start being available in stores on 3rd May.

The final issue of Suicide Squad (#15) written by Dennis Hopeless, on the other hand, reads “Through space and alternate Earths, this version of the Squad has tried to free themselves from Waller’s clutches. In the series finale, they risk everything for freedom one last time.”  It will start being available in stores on 24th May.

Suicide Squad Comic book posters over the years

But what are these two comics all about?

Well, Teen Titans Academy is an academy based in New York City for the Teen Titans. It was originally called Roy Harper Titans Academy after the Teen Titan with the same name. The original Teen Titans Academy consists of Nightwing, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy. Some versions also say that Shazam is a part of this group.

The Suicide Squad on the other hand is a team of DC’s bad-boys or rather their anti-heroes like Peacemaker, Bloodsport, Harley Quinn, etc. In the final issue, we will see the Peacemaker leading the Suicide Squad. The teams will contain characters like Bloodsport, Nocturna, Black Siren, Match, Ambush Bug, etc.

  • Matt Reeves’ Riddler has childhood Animosity with Bruce Wayne – Revealed

The prequel novel to Matt Reeves’ Batman (2022) was launched recently and it has made a number of astounding revelations.

Unlike any other Batman movie that the viewers have witnessed so far, Matt Reeves’ movie will portray the second year of Bruce Wayne being batman and skip the same old origin story.

It will portray a much complex character of the masked vigilante and actor Robert Pattinson has revealed beforehand that it is a ‘sad movie’ as his Batman is already broken by the crime of Gotham City. He is sort of addicted to doing what he does and he now enjoys inflicting pain upon the criminals and is himself a necessary evil of the city – Batman who doesn’t necessarily help !

Matt Reeves had announced beforehand that he wanted to stay aloof from DCEU’s extended universe and he didn’t want his version of the Batman to be destroyed by continuity.

However, that has not stopped the director from adding a bunch of iconic characters in the movie. The Batman (2022) features Cat Woman, the Riddler, Carmine Falone, Penguin and even the Joker according to rumors.

The tie-in novel that has been released, named “Before the Batman: An Original Movie Novel” takes a deep dive into Matt Reeves’ version of the Batman origin story. Interestingly, it also talks about the early life of the antagonists like Riddler and Penguin.

The Early Life of Riddler – Does he know the Batman?

The Riddler, played by Paul Dano in Batman, has been portrayed as a sadistic serial killer who has a political agenda and kills only the rich elite class of the society.

According to the Prequel, the Riddler was a orphan named Edward Nashton. He was Bruce Wayne’s schoolmate but was bullied in school. He was not as famous as Bruce Wayne in the school – in fact quite the opposite. He used to carry crosswords or puzzles with him and he was often called names like ‘Ed-weird’.

The orphanage that Riddler stayed in as a child was in the Wayne Manor. After Thomas Wayne shifted to the Wayne Tower with his family, he gave away the Wayne Manor to charity for them to continue the orphanage. However they left behind a family photo which kept on reminding Riddler of their charity’. He thus held a huge grudge for the Waynes. Riddler couldn’t stop thinking about Bruce Wayne as he was a ‘lucky rich kid’ in his words and had things that he could never attain.

Young Bruce Wayne from the Movie ‘Joker’

The trailer suggests that he knows Batman’s identity and it is thus very personal to him. He wants to torment Bruce Wayne before finishing him.

It is difficult to predict whether the movie will use even a tiny bit of the information that has been mentioned in the Prequel but given the 3 hr length of the movie, Riddler should get a decent screen-time to reveal his plans and motives.

  • “Not your typical Batman”: Robert Pattinson suggests his version of Bruce Wayne is Unique in a negative way

Batman is perhaps one of the most complex DC characters ever. Unlike the other Superhero protagonists, Batman is not stereotypically the Good Guy and over the years, people have tried defining him in their own ways. The DC cinematic Universe itself does not fixate on a particular side of Batman.

Over the years, many directors have had their fair share of experimenting with the character and they have portrayed their version of the Caped crusader. According to latest Batman starrer Robert Pattinson, Matt Reeves’ version of the masked vigilante will be completely different from what the fans have witnessed so far in any Batman movie.

Robert Pattinson has had his fair share of experience working with visionary directors like Christopher Nolan and thus when he praises Matt Reeves regarding his outlook for the character, we better listen.

Robert Pattinson calls Matt Reeves’ Batman a ‘Sad Movie’

The British actor has seen a rough cut of the movie and the very first scene proved that it was not going to be a typical Batman movie.

“I watched a rough cut of the movie by myself and the first shot is so jarring from any other Batman movie that it’s just kind of a totally different pace,” Pattinson said. “It was what Matt was saying from the first meeting I had with him: ‘I want to do a ’70s noir detective story, like The Conversation.’ And I kind of assumed that meant the mood board or something, the look of it. But from the first shot, it’s, Oh, this actually is a detective story. And I feel like an idiot, because I didn’t even know that Batman was ‘the world’s greatest detective’; I hadn’t heard that in my life before—but it really plays.”

Pattinson explained that unlike the other Batman movies where he first goes away to trains and returns with hopes of bringing a change in Gotham, Matt Reeves’ Batman is a mess. It’s been 2-3 years that he is the Batman and the crime has worsened. He has had a breakdown and might not be of much help to the people.

“This thing he’s doing, it’s not even working. Like, it’s two years into it, and the crime has gotten worse since Bruce started being Batman. The people of Gotham think that he’s just another symptom of how shit everything is,” Batman said.

A Batman that might not be helping ! As dangerous as it sounds, Robert Pattinson added his own twist to it. He said that he sees the character as being ‘addicted’ to what he does and the initial inspiration of dead parents might not be the driving force anymore.

The actor concluded by teasing that it is going to be a sad movie. “It’s a sad movie,” he said. “It’s kind of about him trying to find some element of hope, in himself, and not just the city. Normally, Bruce never questions his own ability; he questions the city’s ability to change. But I mean, it’s kind of such an insane thing to do: the only way I can live is to dress up as a bat,” he said.
