Matt Reeves’ The Batman has finally hit the theatres and fans are just loving it. Robert Pattinson has done a brilliant role portraying the Caped Crusader in the movie and has instantly become one of the fan-favourite versions of the beloved DC Vigilante. However, although Pattinson stole the show for almost the entirety of the movie, one of the most exciting scenes of the movie actually did not feature him. And only one character in the whole of DC Universe has such calibre – Batman’s arch-rival Mr J himself.
Joker’s Appearance in The Batman
Yes, however much Matt Reeves and the other members of the cast try to brush the rumours aside, there is no doubt in the fact that the ‘Unseen Arkham Prisoner’ who talked with Paul Dano’s Riddler in the last scene of the movie was the Joker himself. It was long rumoured that Barry Keoghan who recently starred in MCU’s Eternals will be playing the Joker in Matt Reeves’ Batman verse. And the movie’s casting detains confirms that he indeed was the Arkham Prisoner a.k.a Joker in the last scene.
In the last scene when Riddler was having a breakdown after seeing his master plan for the demolition of Gotham fail, Joker tried to inspire and befriend him. He told him that ‘Gotham loves a comeback story’ which suggested that he might be talking about himself as well. According to many theories, in this universe, Batman might have already faced the Joker and it is he who sent him to Arkham Asylum as there are not many figures strong enough to have done it otherwise.
Matt Reeves discusses Joker’s future
Meanwhile, The Batman director Matt Reeves has teased the possible future of Barry Keoghan’s Joker in his Batman verse. Although it is rumoured that Pattinson’s Batman will probably face Joker in the sequel of the movie, Matt Reeves has said that the Joker is more likely to appear in an HBO Max show first.
We know that DC is set to come up with loads of HBO Max series related to The Batman universe and Matt Reeves himself will be the Executive director in all those projects. It has been confirmed already that we are going to see a series on The Penguin a.k.a Oz Cobblepot and Gotham City Police Department (GCPD). Matt Reeves has also teased a possible series on the Arkham Asylum as well.
The director has now said that the Joker might feature in the Arkham Asylum HBO Max series and that is probably how he will be first introduced in his Batman universe.
However, he also said that he himself is not sure as to where things will go from here. Matt Reeves mentioned that he had given cautious advice to Bary before he took up the role as well
However, irrespective of how much the director tries to hide it, fans know deep down that the Joker is DC’s big money card and Matt Reeves is bound to play it at some point in this trilogy.
