Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Trailer 2 Review and Breakdown

The final trailer of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was released Yesterday and it featured a number of additional scenes which were not present in the first trailer. The final trailer teased a wide range of possibilities for the movie ranging from the Dumbledore breaking his blood pact, the fight between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and the appearance of Hogwarts in the movie.

In this article, we shall be reviewing the trailer and also breaking it down scene-by-scene to find out the hidden details and easter-eggs, if any.

1. Old Dumbledore

Old Albus Dumbledore looking into the Pensieve

“Memory is everything. Without it we are blind. Without it we leave the fate of our world to chance” – Albus Dumbledore.

The first scene of the trailer shows Hogwarts which we are all very familiar with. We then see an old Professor Dumbledore, from Harry Potter’s timeline, in front of the magical Pensieve where he stored all his memories. He says the above-given lines about the importance of memories and the scene cuts to show Young Dumbledore holding his and Grindelwald’s blood pact.

Dumbledore’s words suggest that Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will take a deep dive into his past life.

2. Hogwarts is back!

As we said earlier, the very first scene shows Hogwarts before cutting to Dumbledore. We also see a scene where a student from Gryffindor is playing Quidditch and trying to catch the snitch on his broom in front of a Hogwarts tower. It can be assumed that we are going to see much of the Mystic School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

3. Professor McGonagall

Professor McGonagall

“I’m sorry to disturb you, Albus, but I’ve just received troubling news.” – Professor McGonagall

The Fantastic Beasts trilogy has been previously criticised to mess up the age of Professor McGonagall in the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

It would have thus been wise of them not to mess with that character further but seems like Warner Bros have not learnt from their mistakes.

We see a young Professor McGonagall informing Dumbledore about the menace that Gellert Grindelwald has created. She has definitely not been portrayed to be in her right age in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore too as she started teaching in the 1950s.

4. Credence Barebone is after Dumbledore

An encounter between Credence and Dumbledore

Credence Barebone was an American Wizard who became an Obscurial after developing a dark parasitic force due to the repression of his magic. Obscurials generally die before their tenth birthday but Credence lived into adulthood. This was never before seen in the Wizarding world and thus Gellert Grindelwald asked him to join his army. He wanted to use Credence to kill Dumbledore.

In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we saw a glimpse of Credence’s powers and the final trailer of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore showed clearly that he will be going after Albus Dumbledore right from the beginning of the movie.

5. Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald is flawless

Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald

After the suspension of Johny Depp by Warner Bros, fans were worried about the future of Gellert Grindelwald as they assumed nobody could play the role better than the Pirate of the Caribbean fame actor.

However, after saying Mads Mikkelsen in the trailer, they will have one less thing to worry about as the actor has simply killed it in the role! His portrayal of Grindelwald is spot-on and who knows he might even better Depp’s performance.

6. Grindelwald’s war against Muggles begins

“Our time is close my brothers and sisters. Our war with the Muggles begins today.” – Gellert Grindelwald

It is well known that Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will feature Grindelwald’s war against the Muggles.

The trailer was right at it and was able to portray the tension of the situation perfectly. Also, Kudos to the sound designer!

7. Jacob Kowalski is back with his hilarious antics

Jacob Kowalski

Dan Fogler returns as the loveable Jacob Kowalski in the movie. Kowalski is a Polish-born American Muggle who met Newt Scamander in a bank and was introduced to the Wizarding world through him.

He has provided comic relief in the previous films of the franchise and will continue to do so in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

8. A Wand for Muggles!

“I Trust You are enjoying your Wand, Mr Kolwalski” – Albus Dumbledore

Jacob Kowalski is in the team of Newt Scamander and his friends who aim at stopping Gellert Grindelwald. Jacob, being a Muggle, is definitely the weak link in the group and thus Newt gives him a wand at the request of Albus Dumbledore.

It leads to a sequence of funny scenes in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and just doubles the comic impact of Dan Fogler.

9. The Blood Pact

Albus Dumbledore with the blood pact

Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald made a blood pact back in their days when they swore never to fight against each other.

Grindelwald uses it to his advantage during his war against the Muggles as Dumbledore is considered to be the only sorcerer strong enough to defeat him.

The blood pact has been shown in two instances in the trailer and suggests that it will have a big role to play in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

10. Grindelwald vs Dumbledore

Faceoff between Dumbledore and Grindelwald

We know that despite the blood pact, Albus Dumbledore will find a way to fight and defeat Gellert Grindlewald. We even have a scene in the trailer that shows them facing off against each other. Their fight is a big USP of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and the directors better make it epic.

However, it is not known how Dumbledore will be able to break the pact or what are the consequences of breaking it. We will have to wait for the movie to find it out.

11. A new magical way to Teleport

The Wizarding world has amused us in various ways over the years and that includes several ways of teleportation. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will introduce us to another cool way of transportation through an instrument that looks like a Tibetian prayer wheel.

In the trailer, Albus Dumbledore and Jacob Kowalski have been shown to use it. Apparently, it is situated in the Room of requirements at Hogwarts.

12. New Creatures

A Scorpion like Creature

How did you even expect that a franchise named ‘Fantastic Beasts’ will not have new ‘Beasts’ or creatures in every movie? Following the tradition of the franchise Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore showed two new creatures – a Monstrous Giant Scorpion and a rather friendly but bird-like creature.
