  • The Flash Review: A below-average masterpiece!

The Flash Review: Most awaited superhero movie of the year, “The Flash” hit theaters today. With high hopes and anticipation, fans were eager to see their favorite scarlet-clad hero sprint across the big screen and deliver an unforgettable experience.

Unfortunately, despite its captivating premise and star-powered ensemble, The Flash movie struggles to live up to the hype, leaving viewers with a sense of unfulfilled potential. In this article, we will explore the film’s highs and lows, delving into the factors contributing to this surprisingly lackluster outcome in an otherwise enthralling superhero world. Here is our ‘The Flash Review’ for you.

The Flash Review: Barry Allen Overshadowed

While we saw the Flash in the Justice League, the first phase of the movie established the character of Barry Allen really well, and it ends on the same note with his father’s trial. Ezra Miller played both main, and young Barry Allen role in the movie. He did a brilliant job in portraying two different characters at the same time on screen as well as the main villain. However, it was only until the other characters appeared on the screen.

The time Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl appears on screen, they overshadowed the character of The Flash. Namely, the middle phase of the movie is only on the shoulders of Batman and Supergirl. It’s not like the performance of Ezra Miller is not good, But the character doesn’t feel important during the whole General Zord arc.

The Flash lacks a Main Villain.

At First, General Zod was shown as the movie’s main villain in trailers and tv-sports of The Flash. However, he is not a villain of the Flash. He never was a villain of the Flash, which also continues in this movie. Zod is the villain of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, and Flash doesn’t even get to fight with him.

Afterwards, we also get to see an older version of young Barry Allen, who was supposed to be the movie’s main villain and fight with Flash. Instead, he appears on the screen just for a minute before worlds collide and The Flash ends up in a new timeline. There was no Flash villain in the movie, that supposed to make this interesting.

    Poor VFX/CGI of The Flash

The Flash was made with a budget of $220 million, and it’s one of the most expensive movies by DC. For your information, DC Studios has assigned a budget of only $100 million max for each movie that will be made under James Gunn.

With a budget of $220 million, it’s the 5th most expensive movie by the DC Studios. However, it fails to deliver quality VFX/CGI compared to other DC movies. You can point a finger to say it’s not an actual human. It’s primarily visible during the main fight of the movie with General Zod. The superspeed running of Flash also needs to look better, as he looks like he is sliding over the surface instead of running.

You might wonder why his “The Flash Review” is only about negative points. Is ‘The Flash’ worth a watch or not?

So there is a reason why I called this movie a ‘Below-Average Masterpiece!’. It’s because ‘The Flash’ is the best superhero movie after Spider-Man: No Way Home in my consideration. In other words, people are calling this a masterpiece only because there were no good superhero movies in the last 1.5 years.

There are a few good things that make this movie worth a watch. For instance, how they transited from the main timeline of the dc universe to a new one. The concept of worlds colliding leaves a space for the inclusion of every character/actor we have seen in the past to appear in the future. And, the action of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and Michael Keaton’s comeback as Batman.

To sum up my The Flash Review, this movie is definitely worth a watch if you are going theatre with no expectations. If you are hyped up for the movie, It might disappoint you with the poor storyline and plot holes. If you are a DC fan and regularly follow the story of DC Universe, it’s a must-watch for you, as it lays the foundation for a new DC reboot.

  • Why can’t Superman be brought into Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse? Robert Pattinson Explains

The much-awaited upcoming DC movie ‘The Batman’ which will feature Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, is set to hit the theatres in approximately a week’s time on 4th March. The excitement for Matt Reeves’ project is as high as it gets and fans are eager to see what the Planet of the Apes fame director has in store for the character.

While it is nice having so many Batman in the DC Cinematic Universe at the same time, it poses a big problem. And this is exactly what separates DCEU from MCU.

The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be attributed to one thing only – the beautifully interwoven storyline of each and every MCU movie which connects every superhero with each other. This was what allowed them to make the big budget collab movies like the Avengers series. The rest as they say is history.

    The Problem with DCEU

Unlike MCU, the DCEU is way too messed up. There have been over 3 Batmans. 3 Jokers and 2 Super-Mans in the span of the last decade. Let’s take up the Joker for an instant. He was first played by Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, by Jared Leto in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the Suicide squad. Just a few years later, DCEU made an origin story on Joker featuring Joaquin Phoenix. So the question is if they want to make an encounter between say Joker and Batman possible, which version of the two characters will the DC chose to show? This is what leads to the confusion.

Thus, even if the fans wanted to see action between Robert Pattinson’s Batman and DC’s Superman, chances are, it is never going to happen.

    Robert Pattinson’s Explanation

However, on being asked about whether we could see Superman alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman, the actor gave a cunning response. He said that if a Justice League character appears in a Batman movie, it ceases to remain a Batman movie any longer. There is a different tone in the setting of the two characters and thus it would be better if they made Batman a stand-alone movie. Even if Superman were to appear in a Batman movie, his powers could not be showcased.

“Like, we were talking the other day, like, ‘Can you add Superman into it but he just doesn’t have any powers? He’s just a guy in a cape?’ He’s just like, ‘I’m Superman!’ And they’re like, ‘So?’” Pattinson said.

His colleague Selina Kyle, who plays Catwoman in the movie, added that the worlds of Superman and Batman kind of just don’t work together.

Matt Reeves’ Batman is not in the DC Extended Universe

Moreover, director Matt Reeves has announced that he is creating a Bat-verse of himself including characters like Riddler, Penguin, etc and that The Batman(2022) is not a part of the DC Extended Universe. This just brings us back to the whole problem of the DC Cinematic Universe. Although it is an interesting prospect, the future of such a Bat-Verse that is separated from the rest of DCEU does not seem to have a long time effectivity.

  • Robert Pattinson reveals he made the same mistake as Christian Bale while trying out Batman’s Voice

Batman’s voice is an important attribute of his character. Ever since the character’s origin in DC Comics, Bruce Wayne used a serious and gravelly voice when he put on the Batman suit. This served two purposes – intimidating his opponents and protecting his identity.

Robert Pattinson, who plays the Masked vigilante in Matt Reeves upcoming Magnum Opus ‘The Batman’, recently revealed that he had a hard time developing his Batman’s voice.

Over the years, many actors have played the role of the caped crusader on the Big screen. All of them have more or less tried to keep the same voice. However, Pattinson tried to do something different.

Instead of the gravelly voice which has been the cliche for Batman’s voice over the years, Robert Pattinson tries a whispery voice. Unfortunately, it turned out to be horrible and he was asked to stop it by the director.

Robert Pattinson on his Batman Voice

Speaking with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on this topic, Robert Pattinson said, “I actually found out a funny thing about it, because I wanted to do a radically different thing to all the other Batman [sic] and I started in a kind of — I just thought that because everyone has this kind of gruff, gravelly thing — I’m like, I’m going to do the opposite and going to go really whispery. And I tried to do it for the first two weeks and it just looked absolutely atrocious. And they told me to stop doing it.”

However, he was not the only Batman actor to have suffered from this problem. Turns out, Christian Bale, who was the Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Trilogy also tried a whispery voice at the beginning which was later changed. You can even hear that original voice if you listen to the first trailer of Batman Begins carefully. Nick, who was putting Pattinson in the suit every day revealed it to him.

Pattinson said that when he finally got the voice right, he knew instantly that this was it. “You can feel when it feels right. You put the suit on and you have to speak in a certain way,” he said.

The actor also revealed that he struggled to keep the same tone in scenes where Batman had long dialogues.

You can hear Robert Pattinson’s Batman voice in the trailer that was released a few days ago. The movie will be released worldwide on 4th March 2022.

  • Matt Reeves’ Riddler has childhood Animosity with Bruce Wayne – Revealed

The prequel novel to Matt Reeves’ Batman (2022) was launched recently and it has made a number of astounding revelations.

Unlike any other Batman movie that the viewers have witnessed so far, Matt Reeves’ movie will portray the second year of Bruce Wayne being batman and skip the same old origin story.

It will portray a much complex character of the masked vigilante and actor Robert Pattinson has revealed beforehand that it is a ‘sad movie’ as his Batman is already broken by the crime of Gotham City. He is sort of addicted to doing what he does and he now enjoys inflicting pain upon the criminals and is himself a necessary evil of the city – Batman who doesn’t necessarily help !

Matt Reeves had announced beforehand that he wanted to stay aloof from DCEU’s extended universe and he didn’t want his version of the Batman to be destroyed by continuity.

However, that has not stopped the director from adding a bunch of iconic characters in the movie. The Batman (2022) features Cat Woman, the Riddler, Carmine Falone, Penguin and even the Joker according to rumors.

The tie-in novel that has been released, named “Before the Batman: An Original Movie Novel” takes a deep dive into Matt Reeves’ version of the Batman origin story. Interestingly, it also talks about the early life of the antagonists like Riddler and Penguin.

The Early Life of Riddler – Does he know the Batman?

The Riddler, played by Paul Dano in Batman, has been portrayed as a sadistic serial killer who has a political agenda and kills only the rich elite class of the society.

According to the Prequel, the Riddler was a orphan named Edward Nashton. He was Bruce Wayne’s schoolmate but was bullied in school. He was not as famous as Bruce Wayne in the school – in fact quite the opposite. He used to carry crosswords or puzzles with him and he was often called names like ‘Ed-weird’.

The orphanage that Riddler stayed in as a child was in the Wayne Manor. After Thomas Wayne shifted to the Wayne Tower with his family, he gave away the Wayne Manor to charity for them to continue the orphanage. However they left behind a family photo which kept on reminding Riddler of their charity’. He thus held a huge grudge for the Waynes. Riddler couldn’t stop thinking about Bruce Wayne as he was a ‘lucky rich kid’ in his words and had things that he could never attain.

Young Bruce Wayne from the Movie ‘Joker’

The trailer suggests that he knows Batman’s identity and it is thus very personal to him. He wants to torment Bruce Wayne before finishing him.

It is difficult to predict whether the movie will use even a tiny bit of the information that has been mentioned in the Prequel but given the 3 hr length of the movie, Riddler should get a decent screen-time to reveal his plans and motives.

  • “Not your typical Batman”: Robert Pattinson suggests his version of Bruce Wayne is Unique in a negative way

Batman is perhaps one of the most complex DC characters ever. Unlike the other Superhero protagonists, Batman is not stereotypically the Good Guy and over the years, people have tried defining him in their own ways. The DC cinematic Universe itself does not fixate on a particular side of Batman.

Over the years, many directors have had their fair share of experimenting with the character and they have portrayed their version of the Caped crusader. According to latest Batman starrer Robert Pattinson, Matt Reeves’ version of the masked vigilante will be completely different from what the fans have witnessed so far in any Batman movie.

Robert Pattinson has had his fair share of experience working with visionary directors like Christopher Nolan and thus when he praises Matt Reeves regarding his outlook for the character, we better listen.

Robert Pattinson calls Matt Reeves’ Batman a ‘Sad Movie’

The British actor has seen a rough cut of the movie and the very first scene proved that it was not going to be a typical Batman movie.

“I watched a rough cut of the movie by myself and the first shot is so jarring from any other Batman movie that it’s just kind of a totally different pace,” Pattinson said. “It was what Matt was saying from the first meeting I had with him: ‘I want to do a ’70s noir detective story, like The Conversation.’ And I kind of assumed that meant the mood board or something, the look of it. But from the first shot, it’s, Oh, this actually is a detective story. And I feel like an idiot, because I didn’t even know that Batman was ‘the world’s greatest detective’; I hadn’t heard that in my life before—but it really plays.”

Pattinson explained that unlike the other Batman movies where he first goes away to trains and returns with hopes of bringing a change in Gotham, Matt Reeves’ Batman is a mess. It’s been 2-3 years that he is the Batman and the crime has worsened. He has had a breakdown and might not be of much help to the people.

“This thing he’s doing, it’s not even working. Like, it’s two years into it, and the crime has gotten worse since Bruce started being Batman. The people of Gotham think that he’s just another symptom of how shit everything is,” Batman said.

A Batman that might not be helping ! As dangerous as it sounds, Robert Pattinson added his own twist to it. He said that he sees the character as being ‘addicted’ to what he does and the initial inspiration of dead parents might not be the driving force anymore.

The actor concluded by teasing that it is going to be a sad movie. “It’s a sad movie,” he said. “It’s kind of about him trying to find some element of hope, in himself, and not just the city. Normally, Bruce never questions his own ability; he questions the city’s ability to change. But I mean, it’s kind of such an insane thing to do: the only way I can live is to dress up as a bat,” he said.
