  • The Oscars 2022: Zack Snyder’s Justice League defeats Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home in Special Oscars Category

When it comes to Academy Awards, Superhero movies or Comic-book accurate movies have always had hard luck. Irrespective of how successful they might be at the Box-office, the juries often seem to neglect or ignore these larger than life projects and thus they rarely get any Oscars.

However, things are changing lately. With DC’s ‘The Joker’ getting a whopping 11 Oscar nominations two years ago and Marvel’s Black Panther and Logan getting recognition in the Academy Awards is definitely a positive sign for Superhero movies.

Keeping the success of these Superhero movies in mind, The Oscars 2022 thus kept a special Oscars category called the #OscarsCheerMoment which was voted by fans and was completely dominated by Superhero movies. The Award was basically meant to celebrate the biggest moments in movie history and it did just that. However, what shocked everyone was that a DCEU movie thrashed two massive scale Avengers projects to claim the first position, and it is none other than Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Let us have a look at the full list first:-

    1. The Flash enters the Speed Force (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)
    2. The Three Spider-Men United, the unified Web slinging scene (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
    3. Avengers Assemble (Avengers: Endgame)
    4. “And I’m Telling You” (Dreamgirls).
    5. Neo Dodges Bullets (The Matrix).

The fact that the flash scene defeated the Avengers Assemble scene is still understandable because Avengers: Endgame was released over 3 years ago and the hype for it has long gone. But the fact that it defeated Spider-Man: No Way Home which was just released and was the biggest hit of 2021, speaks for itself.

The release of the Snyder Cut was a big moment for DCEU and its fans. After running campaigns for months, Warner Bros had finally listened to the petition of the fans and released the Snyder Cut. The relation and emotional attachment that the fans have with Zack Snyder’s Justice League is thus immense and the DC fans showed what they are capable of once again today winning the Biggest Moment in Movie history award.

  • Aunt May might return in the MCU! Marisa Tomei leaks a big information

Spider-Man: No Way Home was undoubtedly one of the most emotional and heart touching Marvel movies we have seen in the recent past. With all three Spider-Man versions we have seen in our life coming together for this movie, it gave us a perfect opportunity to cherish our childhood and witness a historic moment in the Marvel Cinematic movement. However, the movie also left a tear or two of heartbreak in our eyes and one of the reasons was undoubtedly the tragic loss of Aunt May.

Unlike the other versions of Spider-Man, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man does not have an Uncle Ben and Aunty May is his only guardian. She is a loving character who sees the good in every person and we saw her majorly in four movies in the MCU – Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Right after the interval when Green Goblin turns rogue in No Way Home, he drops one of his grenades at Aunt May. Peter tries to stop him but he is too late as it slips his hands and Aunt May becomes too grievously injured and dies. This is a heartbreaking moment for Tom Holland’s Peter and an emotional moment for the fans as well. After all, everyone loved Aunty May!

Marisa Tomei talks about Aunt May’s possible MCU comeback

    Marisa Tomei as Aunt May

In a recent interview, actor Marisa Tomei who plays the role of Aunty May in MCU said that she would love to return as the character. Many think that this might lead to an indication that the Multiversal portals can open up a gate for Aunt May’s comeback as well.

“I would love to come back and be a part of that. There’s history there, too. May Parker hooks up with Ant-Man. Well, I mean, she’s a standalone character, of course, but there are more avenues to explore,” she said.

Talking further in the interview about the concept of Multiverse, she said that she could not give any spoilers about it even if she wanted as she herself did not understand the concept properly.

“Oh yes, there is a Multiverse. That was part of the secrecy originally, now a lot of people know. But the thing was, if anyone asked me about it, I don’t understand the Multiverse myself. Our wonderful director, Jon, and I’m like ‘And so, where am I now? Ok, well, can you explain it to me one more time?” she said.

  • Marvel releases a Deleted Daredevil scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home

The appearance of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home marked the official entry of the much-loved character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rights to Daredevil were held by Netflix until 2020 and now that Marvel has got back its fan favourite character, they have planned to put him to the best use possible.

Matt Murdock appeared as the attorney of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home after the entire world came to know about the real identity of Spider-Man. Although Charlie Cox appears on-screen for just one scene, he just kills it and wins over the audience instantly. His cameo was one of the most cheered for scenes in the movie and his ‘I am a very good lawyer’ quote after catching a rock thrown through the window gives fans a flashback about his true powers and his un-ignorable style.

In the scene, Murdock advised Happy Hogan to get a very good lawyer as he will be questioned about the missing Stark tech involved in the Mysterio murder case. Although we do not get a continuation to that in the movie as the focus moves on to Peter and his friends Ned and MJ’s inability to move into a college due to the controversy and then obviously the surprising appearance of Spider-Man villains from the past.

The Deleted Matt Murdock scene from No Way Home

However, Marvel has now released a deleted scene from the movie which shows Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) sitting with Happy Hogan as his lawyer in a hearing which implies that the Daredevil actor had shot a number of other scenes for the movie which was then decided to be chopped off in the final edit.

Talking about the deleted scene, Charlie Cox revealed in an interview that He and Jon Favreau had actually added a Foggy Nelson (Matt Murdock’s assistant) easter egg in the deleted scene. The actor said, “I don’t think they used it, but we added a little Easter egg where he goes, ‘Yeah, I’m a little foggy on how that happened’ or something.”

What next for Daredevil in MCU?

Now that Marvel and Disney have received back the rights to Daredevil, it is being rumoured that the much loved Daredevil series might get a Disney+ reboot. Moreover, the protector of Hell’s Kitchen will also appear in several other upcoming Marvel movies and series. It has already been confirmed that Matt Murdock will appear in the Disney+ shows Echo and She-Hulk.

  • Andrew Garfield says he has ‘No Plans’ to return as Spider-Man

Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the most special MCU movies of all time for age-long Marvel fans. It brought the Spideys of three different timelines – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland together for the first time ever and fans were left to tears after seeing the three versions of their favourite childhood Super-hero together on the big screen. It understandably broke many Box-office records and it became one of the biggest hits in MCU history.

The movie gave us numerous scenes to cherish for years to come and fans discussing No Way Home easter eggs even 2 months after its release only proves the point.

While Spider-Man: No Way Home witnessed a stellar performance for all three Spider-man actors, it was particularly groundbreaking for The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield.

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man was one of the least liked versions of the web-slinging superheroes. Despite a brilliant performance by Garfield in both the movies, he was not enough to carry the disappointingly poor storyline. After the failure of the second movie of the franchise in the Box-office, Sony called the off threequel and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man never got closure.

However, the actor totally redeemed himself with Spider-Man: No Way Home. His sensational performance was loved by fans across the world and some even went to the extent of saying that he was the best out of the three. The scene where Garfield’s Spider-Man saved MJ and finally got over his failure to save Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was perhaps the best scene in the entire movie.

After the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans trended #MakeTASM3 (Make The Amazing Spider-Man 3) to tell Sony Studios that Andrew Garfield deserved a final solo movie after his stellar performance in No Way Home.

In fact, there are rumours that seeing the growing popularity of Garfield’s Spider-Man, Sony might actually consider re-casting him as the web-slinging superhero of their Universe.

    What Andrew Garfield has said

Unfortunately, we might have bad news for fans as the actor himself has said in a recent interview that there are no plans for him to return in the suit anytime soon.

However, he himself admitted that probably nobody is going to believe anything that he says anymore due to his lies ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s release.

“No plans, that’s the truth. I mean, everyone’s gonna call me a liar for the rest of my life. I am the boy who cried wolf now, that’s that,” Andrew Garfield said.

Andrew Garfield is a pretty good liar. He was able to lie about his presence in No Way Home for six full months and it made his appearance in the movie even more special – just like it should have been.

However, it had a negative impact as well as no one will ever believe anything he says in an interview anymore. So Sony might even be planning to make TASM3 with Andrew Garfield but he would be the last person to leak it.

  • No Way Home writers teases the future possibilities for the Venom Symbiote in MCU

The one super-villain we missed in Spider-Man: No Way Home was definitely Venom a.k.a Venom played by the brilliant Tom Hardy. Although Marvel gave us the trio of Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man (which by the way, was more than enough to please the audience), we missed the Sinister 6 lineup that was being teased ahead of the release.

Spider-Man: No Way Home featured 5 of the previous villains of Peter Parker across the Universe – Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro and Lizard.

But what is Sinister 6? Well, it is a super-villain organisation started by Dr Octopus according to Marvel comics. Although the original comic-book version of Sinister 6 comprised of Doc Oc, Vulture, Mysterio, Electro, Kraven the Hunter and Sandman, its members have changed over the years and MCU’s version of the group could comprise of Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, Lizard and Venom. Unfortunately, the makers decided not to use Venom yet in the MCU and thus he did not feature in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Venom in No Way Home’s Post-Credit Scene

However, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) made a cameo in the movie in the post-credit scene. In Venom: Let There be Carnage, we saw Venom being transported to Tom Holland’s universe. Venom pointed Tom Holland on the screen and recognised him due to his hive mind. That marked the end of the movie and was a big teaser for No Way Home.

In No Way Home’s post-credit scene, we saw that Eddie Brock was confused on arriving into Tom Holland’s universe and he can’t just process what just happened. Before he could figure things out, he was snapped back into his own universe. However, a part of the Symbiote was left behind and it has opened up a plethora of possibilities for the popular Venom Character in MCU.

In a recent interview, Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna revealed that the post-credit scene has “left open the door open for possibilities” for Venom in MCU.

“It leaves the door open for possibilities. As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote. So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future,” Erik Sommers said.

However, McKenna said that it was not up to them to decide and someone like Kevin Feige had to take the call.

“I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we’re just mortals in. I think it was a fun idea that the sixth [member of] the Sinister Six gets stuck in a bar and doesn’t get out of there, but maybe he leaves a little something behind. Again, we’re not masters of that course of that next adventure,” he said.

    Future of Venom in MCU

While many are of the opinion that now that a part of the Venom Symbiote is left behind, Spidey can use it to summon Hardy’s Venom (as we are familiar with his habit of getting himself in trouble).

The Sony-Marvel understanding will have a big role to play if that were to happen but we might see Tom Hardy playing Venom in the MCU. It’s a possibility.

However, a more interesting narrative would be Tom Holland getting in touch with the Symbiote himself. We know how Venom can corrupt its host and make him addicted to power. Given the current situation that Tom Holland is in (none of his close ones know him), it will be intriguing to see how he pulls him away from it – or will he decide not to…?

  • Marvel Studios receives Oscar nomination for Two movies in the same category

The year 2021 belonged to Marvel. The Marvel Cinematic Universe came up with some masterpiece movies and series (Disney+ MCU series) in 2021. MCU fans were introduced with the concept of Multiverse for the first time in 2021 through Marvel’s Disney+ series WandaVision and Loki. They added to that theory with their Magnum Opus film of the year, Spider-Man: No Way Home which became one of their most successful blockbusters ever.

Apart from these, MCU added a number of new characters in their roster with Shang Chi and The Legend of the ten Rings and Eternals. They also stuck to their small-scale projects with Hawkeye and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, both of which were again Disney+ series. Marvel thus expanded their cinematic universe ten folds in 2021.

No Way Home and Shang Chi get nominated for Oscars

They have now been rightfully awarded for their achievements as two of their movies – Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home have been nominated for oscars.

Both the movies have been nominated for the same category – Best Visual Effects. A major part of almost every Marvel movie is made with CGI effects. Spider-Man: Now Way Home was almost entirely CGI manipulated. The fight between Peter Parker and Dr. Strange in the mirror dimension was probably the best Visual effects in the movie. It was done completely with the help of CGI.

The mirror dimension scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home

Moreover, every Super-villain in the movie except William Defoe’s Green Goblin needed some sort of CGI manipulation – like Doc Ock’s mechanical arms and Electro’s glow. Not to mention, Sandman and Lizards were completely VFX made.

In Shang Chi, the final battle between Wenwu and Shang Chi which included the Ten Rings was undoubtedly the best scene of the movie. The visual effects and the details involved in that scene were just perfect. Moreover, the scene involving the Great Protector and the Dweller in Darkness was absolutely sensational as well.

The Epic Battle scene between Wenwu and Shang Chi

However, many Marvel fans are disappointed as Spider-Man: No Way Home was not nominated for the Best picture award. However, the competition in that category was immense and as we all know, SuperHero movies are often not prioritized in these categories. “Belfast,” “Coda,” “Don’t Look Up,” “Drive My Car,” “Dune,” “King Richard,” “Licorice Pizza,” “Nightmare Alley,” “The Power of the Dog,” and “West Side Story” were all nominated for the Best Picture.

Although the two marvel movies are top contenders to win the Oscar for Best Visual effects, they have tough competition there as well. ‘Dune’, ‘No Time To Die’ and ‘Free Guy’ have also been nominated. Sci Fi epic ‘Dune’ is a favorite to win the award.
